| Principles of Protection & Detail Operations
There was a time when protection specialists (bodyguards) were used only by a select few. Very affluent families, political figures, and celebrities formed an elite community who, by virtue of their status and bank account, required or had the means to afford personal protection. As society has changed and crime has increased, individuals and organizations of every type and status are recognizing the value of personal protection.
Gone are the days when a protection specialist was qualified by virtue of his physical stature. Today’s protection specialist is an expert in a range of specialized skills.
Through a balanced curriculum of both classroom training and hands-on experience, students are familiarized with the functions of a protective operation and the dangers of relying on reactive skills alone.
Topics include:
Introduction to the Protective Services Industry • Threats Considerations and Assessments • Observational Skills • Physical Security Countermeasures • Advance Man/Team Operations • Detail Formation, Function, and Organization
NOTE: This course is focused on cultivating operational knowledge and the student's understanding of protection methodology. While this course addresses tactics for response to attacks on a principal, this course does not focus on firearms skills, unarmed defense, escape and evasive driving, and other hands-on tactical issues. Most students entering the executive protection field have developed these skills through previous experience or may acquire these skills through other courses. See Advanced Firearms and Secondary Weapons for more course offerings focused on reactive capability.

Student Comments
“In December of 2002, I retired as a major from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Tampa, Fl. During my career, I was able to attend Secret Service Dignitary Protection Training, Executive Protection Training through Kobetz & Associates in Winchester Va., and numerous seminars and workshops dealing with the topic. Some was more theory oriented, but most was hands-on.
In my new role as Director for Corporate Security, the responsibility for protecting our executives, both at home and abroad, falls to our team. All of us have attended the S-2 Intelligence Institute courses in Executive Protection and believe them to be excellent. Tim O'Rourke is an experienced instructor who challenges his students with common sense strategies and superior techniques..”
